Cavell Johnson Signs One-Year Contract with Salon Vilpas Vikings
He played in Canada in the last two seasons
Slan Sports Management is pleased to announce that Cavell Johnson has signed a one-year contract with the Salon Vilpas Vikings in the Finnish Korisliiga. Johnson, a 6’9” power forward/center, is coming off of a two-year stint as a member of the Brampton A’s in the National Basketball League of Canada. While playing with the A’s, he was selected to the All-NBLC Second Team in 2014 and the All-NBLC Third Team in 2015. Johnson was also consistently recognized as one of the top defenders in the league, winning the Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2014, and earning a spot on the NBLC All-Defensive Team in both seasons. In 2014, he was selected to participate in the NBLC All-Star Game. This past season, Johnson averaged 12.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, and led the league with 1.6 blocks per contest, helping take Brampton to the NBLC Semi Finals.
Originally from Temple Hills, Maryland, Johnson attended high school at Notre Dame Academy before starting his collegiate career at James Madison University in the NCAA. Following his junior year, Johnson transferred to the University of Maryland, Baltimore County to play his senior season for the Retrievers. In 31 games there, he averaged 12.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game. The Retrievers won the American East Conference (AEC) Tournament and Johnson was named to the All-AEC Third Team. He also took home the AEC Male Sportsmanship Award that year.
