PBC Lukoil Academic Sofia, the storied Bulgarian club which competed in the EuroChallenge this season, reclaimed on Monday night the NBL league title they had let slip last year.
Jovica Arsic's men defeated Balkan 3-2 in the NBL play-off finals to conquer the crown, which represents the 24th Bulgarian championship in the history of the Sofia club.
Academic led Balkan from start to finish and prevailed 87-77 at home in the decisive Game 5 of the series on Monday, behind a stellar showing of 23 points, 5 rebounds and four assists by Bulgarian international Hristo Zahariev and 16 points from Nikola Dragovic.
Zahariev, who had started the season with Levski Sofia and joined Academic only after the end of their EuroChallenge campaign, was named MVP of the finals.
