CSKA Moscow, Sonny Weems officially part ways

UPDATE 20.48: Forward Sonny Weems leaves CSKA Moscow due to mutual agreement.

Once Sonny Weems addressed the club his desire to try to get back to the NBA, our club decided not to prevent, taking into account how valuable Sonny was for the team past three years. The contract negotiations at NBA can start only after July 1, and CSKA was not able to wait until this time, so the parties agreed to terminate the contract now.


Andrey Vatutin, CSKA Moscow President:
We have to part with the player who belongs to the top in Europe on his position and possesses all the talents needed to play in the NBA. Sonny earned the respect from the club and the fans by his game and we really wish him good luck to get his dream come true.

Sonny Weems:
I would like to thank the club for understanding. I want to thank Andrey Vatutin, Natalia Furaeva along with CSKA fans and my teammates for my time in Moscow. It was special. Now I want to try waters in the NBA but I don’t close the door for European basketball which I really like.


19.31: According to Rsport.ru, CSKA Moscow and small-forward Sonny Weems have reached an agreement to terminate the contract.

The player will go back to USA and will try to sign a contract in NBA.
