Unics Kazan land Petr Gubanov
The big man comes from Nizhny Novgorod
Turkish Airlines Euroleague Qualifying Rounds challenger Unics Kazan reached into its recent past for a solid big man off the bench, Petr Gubanov, signing him to a two-year contract on Friday. Gubanov (2.06 meters, 27 years old) previously played the 2011-12 season for Unics, averaging 1.4 points in nine Turkish Airlines Euroleague games and 2.2 in 14 domestic games. Gubanov had previously debuted in the Euroleague with Khimki Moscow Region, scoring the same 1.4 points over 11 games in the 1009-10 season. He returns now to Kazan from another Russian club, Nizhny Novgorod, after having put up 5.5 points and 1.8 rebounds in just 12 minutes per game last season while reaching the semifinals in the Eurocup debut for both team and player. Gubanov has also played for Russian clubs Samara, Surgut, Dynamo Moscow and Enisey Krasnoyarsk.
