Aaron Miles is Eurochallenge Last 16 Week 1 Top Performer
The player of Samara is the best player of the week
Krasnye Krylia captain Aaron Miles delivered his best performance in the EuroChallenge on Tuesday, but the short-handed Russian side suffered a shock 75-74 defeat to Tartu University Rock at home in the Last 16 premiere. Miles scored with a lay-up four seconds from the fourth buzzer to tie the scores at 68 and force overtime and reached an efficiency index rating of 29 on the night, although Tartu still managed to stun their hosts in the extra period. The 30-year-old American point guard finished with 24 points on 10-for-15 from the floor, seven assists, five steals and three rebounds in a losing effort and can find some consolation in the fact that he is the Top Statistical Performer of Last 16 Week 1. The 24 points and five steals that Miles picked up on Tuesday are both a personal best during his three seasons in the EuroChallenge. Miles dished out the most assists in the competition (6.9 apg) last season, when Krasnye Krylia conquered the title undefeated, and is averaging seven assists per game this year as joint leader together with Anton Glazunov of Ural Ekaterinburg. He is also leading the competition in steals, as he recovers 2.5 balls per game on average. Unlike Miles, the two players that join him on the podium of top statistical performers this week reaped the benefits of their excellent individual displays, as they propelled Tsmoki Minsk to a 100-64 rout of Team TEHO Sport Kotka on the road on Wednesday night. Parrish Petty scored 11 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished out eight assists and came up with a joint season-high six steals to register an efficiency index rating of 28 and take second place behind Miles. His team-mate Keith Benson Jr meanwhile was on the receiving end of many of those assists and finished with 24 points on 9-for-13 shooting and also added four rebounds to earn a rating of 24. The Minsk center is the only player, together with Courdon Higgins of Triumph Lyubertsy, to have reached an efficiency rating of 36 in this edition of the EuroChallenge, when he earned Top Performer honours in Week 5 of the Regular Season. |
