LAPD released the video from Tyler Honeycutt’s standoff with police on July 7. The player’s death was ruled a suicide by the coroner’s office.
The mother of Honeycutt called the police on July 7 because his son was acting erratically.
Lisa Stazel told the police that his son had a gun in the house and he was worried that he would have pulled a gun out on himself.
“He’s hallucinating. I already called the mental hospital and they said if he becomes aggressive, which he just did, to call 911 and tell them that he has guns in the house. You need to hurry because I’m afraid he’s going to pull a gun out on himself.”
Lisa Stazel told the officers, when the arrive on the crime scene, that her son was a professional basketball player and that he spent six months “sucking laughing gas”. “I think it scrambled his brain,” she added.
The last part of the footage shows the officers receiving fire from the house.
