Euroleague Basketball statement on banners at Peace and Friendship Stadium

A disciplinary proceeding has been opened by Euroleague Basketball against Olympiacos Piraeus regarding banners that were displayed Thursday evening at Peace and Friendship Stadium during the team's Round 23 game against Valencia Basket.

The views expressed on the banners are offensive, harmful, and contrary to the principles upheld by Euroleague Basketball and outlined in the by-laws of its competitions. The messages seen on the banners in no way represent either the sport of basketball, the European basketball family or the Euroleague Basketball organization at any level.

Besides their offensive content, the banners were removed once and then placed again in an area of the arena whose access is restricted to fans according to Turkish Airlines EuroLeague by-laws.

Euroleague Basketball would like to reiterate to all fans, partners and television broadcasters across the globe who share our values that the security and well-being of fans is our utmost priority. EB will always ensure that the enjoyment of our games is in line with the universal values of the sport. EB will have zero tolerance towards violence or the threat of violence in or near Euroleague arenas.
