Two MVPs for EuroLeague Round 10
Two veteran Turkish Airlines EuroLeague stars helped their teams continue winning streaks on Friday night and in the process ended up sharing the MVP of the Round honor. CSKA Moscow's Nando De Colo added to his record by winning the 12th such award of his career, while James Gist of Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens claimed the first MVP honor of his 164-game EuroLeague career. In CSKA's 92-78 home victory against FC Barcelona Lassa, De Colo scored 18 points on 5-for-8 two-point and 2-for-5 three-point shooting. De Colo also tied career highs with 11 assists and 4 steals on his way to a performance index rating of 30. That was the highest PIR among players on winning teams in Round 10, and the same total that Gist accumulated as Panathinaikos won 82-71 over Unicaja Malaga. Eight-year veteran Gist had 17 points and matched his career-high with 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. He made 7 of 9 two-pointers and hit 1 of 2 triples to go with 2 assists, 1 steal and 2 fouls drawn. The highest index rating of the week belongs to Luka Doncic of Real Madrid, who accumulated a PIR of 32 in an 83-87 home loss to Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade. Doncic posted 20 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds and 10 fouls drawn. Anadolu Efes Istanbul big man Vladimir Stimac followed with an index rating of 29 in a 73-68 home win against AX Armani Exchange Olimpia Milan. Stimac had 19 points and 10 rebounds, 5 apiece on offense and defense, along with 9 fouls drawn. The fifth-best performer in Round 10 was Cory Higgins of CSKA Moscow, who had a career-high index rating of 28. Higgins netted 20 points and collected 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in CSKA's victory over Barcelona.
Individual highs: Georgios Printezis of Olympiacos Piraeus, 14 rebounds
Errick Green of Valencia Basket, Norris Cole of Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv and Alexey Shved of Khimki Moscow Region were the top scorers of Round 10, netting 26 points apiece. That propelled Shved to the top of this season's scoring charts with a league-best 20.1 points per game. Olympiacos Piraeus veteran forward Georgios Printezis pulled a career-high 14 rebounds, the most in Round 10. Injured Khimki center Thomas Robinson remained the EuroLeague's best rebounder with 7.8 per night. Nick Calathes of Panathinaikos led this round with 12 assists and extended his margin atop the season rankings to 7.9 per game. Maccabi's Jonah Bolden had a career-best 5 steals to lead all players in that category. Rakim Sanders of Barcelona is the new season leader with 1.8 steals per contest. Bolden and Valencia's Tibor Pleiss rejected 4 shots each, the best total of the round. Pleiss leads all shot-blockers this season by averaging 1.8 per game. There were five double-doubles this week: Printezis had 12 points and 14 rebounds, Gist collected 17 points and 11 boards, Stimac posted 19 points plus 10 boards, Calathes scored 16 points and dished 12 assists, and De Colo had 18 points and 11 assists.
