EuroLeague
Turkish Airlines Euroleague powerhouse and the nine-time continental champion Real Madrid announced the agreement with head coach Pablo Laso that will keep two sides together for two more years. A former Alexander Gomelskiy Coach of the Year and the man who guided Madrid to the 2015 EuroLeague crown, Laso will now stay on the club's bench until June of 2020. The current season is the seventh together Madrid and Laso, who took over as the head coach in the summer of 2011 and since then has also led the team to 13 trophies: the 2015 EuroLeague, three Spanish League titles, five Spanish Cups, three Spanish Supercups and one Intercontinental Cup. Laso and Madrid have made a total of four EuroLeague Final Four appearances, including three championship games. Laso, who turned 50 years of age this month, has 123-49 EuroLeague record in the competition since taking over Los Blancos, and his team has averaged 84.3 points in those 169 games, first among EuroLeague teams. Laso's 2014-15 Madrid squad holds the EuroLeague record for the highest single-season assist average with 21.47, while in December of 2015 Madrid set the all-time record for assists in a game with 36. Before Madrid, Laso coached Leoni Castellona, Valencia Basket, Cantabria Lobos and Gipuzkoa, all in his native Spain. After Lolo Sainz (14) and Pedro Ferrandiz (10), Laso has now spent the third-most time at the head of the bench of Real Madrid.
