Bourousis is the MVP of Round 19
All-EuroLeague center Ioannis Bourousis made his first start in more than two months on Tuesday for Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens and made it one to remember by earning MVP honors for Round 19 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season. Bourousis posted a double-double in leading the Greens to a 71-65 victory over FC Barcelona Lassa. He amassed 14 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks and a performance index rating of 31, which was the highest of any player in the round. It was the eighth weekly MVP honor of his career. Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade point guard Stefan Jovic had one of the best games of his EuroLeague career in leading his team to a 69-87 road win at Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz. Jovic set careers highs with 18 points and a performance index rating of 29. He only missed 3 shots and amassed 12 assists and 4 steals to lead the Serbian champs. Centers Gustavo Ayon of Real Madrid and Art Parakhouski of Unics Kazan tied for the third-highest index of Round 19 with 28, which marked the second straight round that they were both among the top five. Ayon posted 16 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks in an 89-91 victory at Brose Bamberg. Parakhouski posted 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting and collected 9 rebounds in an 81-86 loss to Fenerbahce Istanbul. Rounding out the list of top performers for Round 19 were sharpshooter Jon Diebler of Galatasaray Odeabak Istanbul and Brad Wanamaker of Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul. Diebler was at the top of his game with 6-of-7 shooting from downtown in a 102-63 thrashing of Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv. He tied career-highs in three-pointers made and with 21 points and also collected 6 rebounds in accumulating a career-best index rating of 26. Wanamaker netted 24 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 6 assists in a losing effort, 93-81, against Anadolu Efes Istanbul.
Individual leaders: Ante Zizic of Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul, 18 rebounds
Real Madrid’s star guard led his team to victory with 26 points, which was also the most of any player in Round 19. Llull is third in the league with 17.9 points per game. Former Ford Trophy winner Keith Langford of Unics remains the league’s top scorer for the season with 22.8 points per game. Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul’s young center Ante Zizic dominated with 18 rebounds, which was not only the most of the round, but a club record and the most rebounds of any player all season. No player is averaging more than Brose Bamberg forward Nicolo Melli’s 8.1 rebounds per game. Veteran Galatasaray guard Sinan Guler and Jovic each dished 12 assists, which lead all Round 19 participants. CSKA playmaker Milos Teodosic leads all players with 7.6 assists per game this season. Jovic and teammate Charles Jenkins share the top spot for the round in steals with 4 each. Jenkins improved his average to 2.1 steals per game , which is the most in the league. No player blocked more shots in Round 19 than Efes big man Bryant Dunston, who had 3. Ekpe Udoh of Fenerbahce owns the league’s best average with 2.1 blocks per game. Four players recorded double-doubles in Round 19: Bourousis, Jovic, Leo Westermann (10 points, 10 assists) of Zalgiris and Zizic (16 points, 18 rebounds).
