Regular Season Round 2 MVP: Vassilis Spanoulis, Olympiacos Piraeus

In the first quarter of action for Round 2 of the 2016-17 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season, Vassilis Spanoulis of Olympiacos Piraeus made history by scoring the 3,000th point of his EuroLeague career. At the week's end, he remains in the headlines as the MVP for Round 2. Spanoulis shined with 17 points and 9 assists in leading the Reds to a 90-66 home victory over Anadolu Efes Istanbul. He also drew 9 fouls in collecting a performance index rating of 26, which was the best among all players from winning teams in Round 2. Spanoulis is ranked second in competition history with 3,013 career points. With 965 assists, he is just 12 away from being second in that category too. The weekly leaders in index rating were teammates Austin Daye and Alex Tyus of Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul, which lost at home 83-85 to Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade. The duo each posted indexes of 27. Daye amassed 24 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals, while Tyus posted 19 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 4 blocks. Rounding out the list of Round 2's best were Leo Westermann of Zalgiris Kaunas, teammates Nikos Zisis and Nicolo Melli of Brose Bamberg, Cedi Osman of Anadolu Efes Istanbul, Coty Clarke of Unics Kazan, Marko Simonovic of Crvena Zvezda and Andrey Vorontsevich of CSKA Moscow, all of whom recorded index ratings of 24.

Daye and Unics Kazan guard Keith Langford shared this week's scoring title with 24 points apiece. Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv guard Andrew Goudelock and Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz big man Andrea Bargnani are this season's scoring co- leaders with 21.5 points per game. Three players collected 9 rebounds in Round 2 to lead all others: Nick Calathes of Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens, Tyler Honeycutt of Efes and Paulius Jankunas of Zalgiris. Unics big man Latavious Williams is averaging the most rebounds in the league with 11 so far this season. EuroLeague veteran Zisis topped the Round 2 charts with 12 assists, which was 1 off his career high. All-EuroLeague guard Milos Teodosic of CSKA has been worth 10 assists per game to lead all players this season. EA7 Emporio Armani Milan swingman Alessandro Gentile swiped 4 balls in Thursday's road win at Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul, which was the most in Round 2. Sinan Guler of Galatasaray and Scottie Wilbekin of Darussafaka are this season's co-leaders with 2.5 steals per game. No player recorded more blocks in Round 2 than Tyus of Galatasaray with 4. He is tied with Khem Birch of Olympiacos for the regular season lead with 2.5 blocks per game. Only two players tallied double-doubles in Round 2 and both were guards: Zisis with 16 points and 12 assists and Real Madrid's Sergio Llull with 14 points and 11 assists.
