Jordi Bertomeu: 'Spain, Germany, VTB and ABA will be rewarded with one spot in Euroleague'

Jordi Bertomeu, commissioner of the Euroleague, said to the media that Germany, Spain, VTB League and ABA League will be rewarded with one spot each in the Euroleague regular-season next year. That means that another spot will go to the Eurocup's winner.

 

“VTB United League, ABA Liga, German’s BBL and Spain’s ACB are the best leagues in Europe and they will be rewarded with one spot in the Euroleague regular season”.

 

Bertomeu also said that there won't be any wildcards: "We are not working and thinking on wild cards. We are thinking on the clubs that have proven that they are the top in Europe and in addition representatives of other leagues. When we have the opportunity to enlarge the competition we will examine it"

    Although it's good to hear that no wildcard will be given next year for dacka, the spot given to German league is ridiculous since Italian Serie A and Turkish BBL are much better.

    also i dont like to see this wildcards selling but this company needs money and dogus group made lots of arrangements with this company.. in my opinion dacka will be in that championship next year.. unless euroleague will find someone else.. maybe much more money... this situation will be changed...

    it's a shame that we will see only 16 teams in that tournament. if they want to widen the championsip more; they have to increase the number i think.. and it can only be happen with closing league to outside and participiant teams only eligible for euroleague. actually it cannot be happen today but it has to be done for future for reach nba..
