Regular Season, Round 9 bwin MVP: Dusko Savanovic, FC Bayern Munich

Dusko Savanovic of FC Bayern Munich saved his best for his team's last Turkish Airlines Euroleague home game of the season. Savanovic scored a career-high 31 points – including 14 in the fourth quarter – to lead Bayern to a come-from-behind 95-89 victory over PGE Turow Zgorzelec. His outstanding performance also netted Savanovic Round 9 bwin MVP honors. Savanovic was not only efficient with his shooting – 7 of 10 on two-point shots, 4 of 6 from behind the three-point arc and 5 of 6 from the foul line – but he also totaled 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks for a performance index rating of 37, which was the highest of any player in Round 9 of the regular season. His index rating also established a record for Bayern Munich players in the Euroleague. This was the second time in Savanovic’s career that he was named player of the week. FC Barcelona forward DeShaun recorded the second-highest index rating of the week with 31 in an 89-91 home loss at the hands of Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul. Thomas shined with 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting plus 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Next on the list of Round 9 stars was Cedevita Zagreb swingman Fran Pilepic, who compiled a career-best 29 index in a 71-82 loss to Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv. Pilepic set a club record in three-point shooting by making 6 of 7 from downtown. He finished with 22 points, 2 assists and 2 steals. Rounding out the list of Round 9’s best performers were Jan Vesely of Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul, Dimitris Diamantidis of Panathinaikos Athens and Jamel McLean of ALBA Berlin, each with index ratings of 28. Vesely shined in Fenerbahce’s road win over Barcelona with 16 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 blocks – all season highs for him. Diamantidis led the Greens with 12 points and 11 assists in a 66-64 loss at EA7 Emporio Armani Milan. McLean pushed ALBA to spot in the Top 16 with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals in a 65-71 road win at Limoges.

In addition to his bwin MVP honors, Savanovic was also the week’s No. 1 scorer with 31 points. Injured Nizhny Novgorod guard Taylor Rochestie remains the regular season’s top scorer with an average of 20 points per game. Crvena Zvezda Telekom Belgrade center Boban Marjanovic remains the league’s leading rebounder after taking 13 in Round 9, which led all players. He is averaging 10.6 rebounds per game. Diamantidis, the Euroleague’s all-time assist leader, was the high man in Round 9 with 11. He climbed to fourth for the season with 5.9 assists per game. CSKA Moscow’s injured star Milos Teodosic sits atop the regular season charts with 8.4 assists per game, while Marcus Williams has the most accumulated assists with 61. No player in Round 9 had more steals than the 4 by Ramel Curry of Limoges. Tarence Kinsey of Nizhny Novgorod leads the league with 2.6 steals per game. Maccabi Electra big man Alex Tyus and Nizhny center Art Parakhouski each blocked 4 shots in Round 9 to top the weekly charts. Tyus’s teammate Brian Randle remains the regular season leader with 1.9 per game. Four players recorded double doubles in Round 9: Marjanovic (17 points, 13 rebounds), Jan Vesely (16 points, 10 rebounds), Vladimir Golubovic (12 points, 10 rebounds) of Unicaja Malaga and Diamantidis (12 points, 11 assists).
