Regular Season, Round 8 bwin MVP: D'or Fischer, Unics Kazan

D'or Fischer destroyed Sassari

EuroLeague
With one of the finer performances seen in any Turkish Airlines Euroleague game this decade, center D'or Fischer continued his brilliant stretch of play for Unics Kazan and earned the bwin MVP award for Round 8 of the regular season. The veteran center was a difference-maker as Unics won its third game in a row by 68-72 on the road against Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari to move into a tie for third place in Group A. Fischer was near perfect in scoring 23 points on 10-of-11 shooting, ripping a club-record 15 rebounds and adding 3 assists, 2 blocks and 1 steal for a performance index rating of 43, the best so far this season. What's more, only two players have posted higher index ratings than Fischer's 43 since 2010. The weekly runner-up was Devin Smith, who played a big role in Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv’s 95-89 victory over ALBA Berlin with a career-high 26 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal in a fine all-around performance that netted him an index rating of 28. Rounding out the week's top performances were last week's bwin MVP, Boban Marjanovic of Crvena Zvezda Telekom Belgrade, Taylor Rochestie of Nizhny Novgorod, reigning Euroleague bwin MVP Sergio Rodriguez of Real Madrid and Jamar Smith of Limoges CSP, with performance index ratings of 25 each. Marjanovic lifted his team to a 68-77 road win at Valencia with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Rochestie and Rodriguez lined up against one another in Madrid's 98-101 road win over Nizhny. Rochestie scored 22 points with just 2 missed shots and dished 8 assists, while Rodriguez went for 19 points, 6 assists and 3 steals. Jamar Smith paced Limoges to a 67-64 come-from-behind win over Unicaja Malaga with 18 points on 4-of-5 three-point shooting plus 4 rebounds and 5 assists.

Individual leaders: Brent Petway, Olympiacos, 4 blocks

Maccabi's Smith was Round 8's leading scorer with his 26-point effort against ALBA. He also moved into the top 10 scorers for the season with an average of 16.4 points. Nizhny's Rochestie remains the league's No. 1 scorer for the season with an even 20 points per game. Fischer's 15 rebounds were the most by any player in Round 8. Zvezda center Boban Marjanovic sits atop the season-long rebounding charts with 10.3 per game. Laboral Kutxa Vitoria guard Thomas Heurtel and Vassilis Spanoulis of Olympiacos Piraeus each dished 9 assists, the most in Round 8. CSKA Moscow’s injured guard Milos Teodosic boasts 8.4 assists per game to remain the high average in the Euroleague this season, while Zvezda's Marcus Williams has the most total assists with 57. No player gathered more steals in Round 8 than Filip Dylewicz of PGE Turow Zgorzelec, who swiped 5 balls. Sassari guard David Logan moved into a tie with Tarence Kinsey of Nizhny for the league lead in steals with 2.5 per game. Olympiacos forward Brent Petway blockd 4 shots in Friday's victory to lead all Round 8 competitors. Brian Randle of Maccabi Electra remains the regular season blocked shots leader with 2.2 rejections per game. Three players compiled double doubles in Round 8: Fischer, Marjanovic and Kim Tillie (11 points, 10 rebounds) of Laboral Kutxa.
