Regular season Round 5 bwin MVP: Andrew Goudelock, Fenerbahce Ulker

Andrew Goudelock continues to enjoy one of the finest Euroleague debuts in recent history. After winning bwin MVP honors in just his second game, the Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul scorer turned in a record-setting performance on Thursday to become the Round 5 bwin MVP. Goudelock established a new Euroleague mark with 10 three-pointers as the Turkish champs bested FC Bayern Munich 86-93. He finished with 34 points scored, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal in compiling a performance index rating of 40, which was not only the best of Round 5’s 12 games, but the highest index in the league all season. Goudelock is the only player to have reached an index of 30 twice so far this season. Shane Lawal of Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari had the second-highest index rating of the week, 35, in his team’s 92-80 victory over Zalgiris Kaunas. Lawal exploded for 25 points on 10-of-12 shooting plus 9 rebounds 2 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Next on the list of Round 5 stars was Art Parakhouski of Nizhny Novgorod, who compiled a 30 index. Parakhouski was a force in the middle for Nizhny in its 73-79 victory at Unics Kazan. The first-year center amassed 19 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field and 7-of-8 from the line in addition to 9 rebounds and 1 block. FC Barcelona center Ante Tomic and ALBA Berlin forward Jamel McLean round out the Round 5 top five. Tomic paced Barcelona in 78-69 victory over Panathinaikos Athens with 16 points on perfect shooting plus 10 rebounds for an index rating of 29. McLean amassed a 27 index after scoring 20 points, grabbing 5 boards and drawing 9 fouls in a 67-80 road win at Cedevita Zagreb.  

Individual leaders: Jeff Brooks of Dinamo Sassari, 7 steals 

Goudelock not only scored more points than any player in Round 5, but he tied former Euroleague MVP Vassilis Spanoulis of Olympiacos for the highest output all season. After scoring 27 points in Round 2, Goudelock has two of the top five scoring efforts this season. So it’s no surprise that he also top the season-long scoring charts with an average of 21 points per game. The foursome of Ante Tomic, Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv forward Devin Smith, Olympiacos Piraeus big man Othello Hunter and Limoges forward Adrien Moerman shared the Round 5 lead in rebounds with 10 each. The full season leader remains John Bryant of FC Bayern Munich, who is averaging 9 rebounds per game. CSKA Moscow playmaker Milos Teodosic matched Euroleague MVP Sergio Rodriguez for the most assists in a game this season with 12, which led all Round 5 players. Teodosic leads all players this season with 8.4 assists per game. Jeff Brooks of Dinamo Sassari tied for 10th place in competition history with 7 steals; the single-game record is 11, set by Jeff Trepagnier of Ulker in January 2006. Despite his effort, Brooks is only ranked fourth for the season with 2.4 steals per game. Teammate David Logan leads all players this season with 3.2 steals per game. Brian Randle of Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv tied a club record with 6 blocked shots, which was also the most recorded in a game this season. He now leads the league with an average of 2.4 blocks per game. Five players racked up Round 5 double-doubles: Devin Smith (24 points, 10 rebounds) of Maccabi Electra, Othello Hunter (17 points, 10 rebounds) of Olympiacos Piraeus, Adrien Moerman (17 points, 10 rebounds) of Limoges, Ante Tomic (16 points, 10 rebounds) of FC Barcelona and Milos Teodosic (16 points, 12 assists) of CSKA Moscow.
