Euroleague Top 16, Round 12: Sportando Team of the Week

Rodriguez is the MVP with Arroyo, Spanoulis, Brown and Tyus

EuroLeague

MVP - Sergio Rodriguez (Real Madrid)

Rodriguez dominates the game in Tel Aviv, giving a highly important win to his team (77-76). His court vision on pick and roll plays, crafty crossover and change of speed make him basically unguardable, and he can get into the paint with impressive ease. In the fourth quarter (15-19) he draws a foul in three consecutive possessions, scoring 8 points from the free throw line, and dishes out three assists to his teammates which results in other 7 points. He has 21 PTS shooting 11/11 from the free throw line, 5 AST, 6 FD and 30 EV.

Carlos Arroyo (Galatasaray)

Arroyo has another impressive offensive game in the road win in Kaunas (84-72): he has a quiet first half, but scores 17 points in the second one, fighting back any Zalgiris' effort to come back. He has no trouble in beating a poor Zalgiris' perimeter defense, and as usual gives the ball away really well on pick and roll plays. He finishes with 19 PTS, 7 AST and 20 EV.

Vassilis Spanoulis (Olympiacos)

Olympiacos is able to get a huge road win in Malaga (80-63), with Spanoulis dominating the pivotal first quarter (18-28) scoring 10 points with a couple of impressive shots. He struggles a bit when aggressively double-teamed on the pick and roll but is able to heat up again in the third quarter, scoring 7 points when Malaga tries to come back. He has 20 PTS shooting 4/8 from beyond the arc and 18 EV.

Derrick Brown (Lokomotiv Kuban)

In the home win against Partizan (84-73), Brown's explosiveness and athleticism are hardly matchable by the more traditional frontcourt of the Serbian team. Brown is unstoppable in transition plays and on cuts, can beat his defender off the dribble and drive hard to the basket on the pick and roll, while his quick hands and feet make him a consistent threat on defense.

In the game he has 18 PTS shooting 6/6 inside the arc, 5 RBS, 7 AST, 3 STL, 6 FD and 34 EV.

Alex Tyus (Maccabi Tel Aviv)

Despite missing the free throw which would have tied the game, Tyus has an impressive performance: his athleticism and quickness on the pick and roll really hurts Real Madrid, which struggles to help because of the perfect spacing from Maccabi. He's also a rebounding force and plays high-level defense in the paint, both properly using his body in the paint and switching on the pick and roll. He has 18 PTS shooting 9/9 from the field, 11 RBS and 26 EV.
