Last 16 Game 2 MVP: E.J. Rowland, VEF Riga

An outstanding performance in a winning effort allowed veteran guard E.J. Rowland of VEF Riga to pick up Last 16 Game 2 MVP honors. Rowland led VEF to a 99-73 home win over Uxue Bilbao Basket with 30 points on 8-of-12 two-point shooting and 4 of 5 three-point attempts. He added 3 rebounds, an assist, 3 steals, a block and 7 fouls drawn for a performance index ranking of 36 - the best among all players on winning teams in Last 16 Game 2. Chuck Eidson of Unics Kazan also amassed a 36 index, but his team fell short 87-95 against Ratiopharm Ulm. Eidson led Unics with 31 points on 6-of-9 three-point shooting and 5-of-5 free throws, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 6 fouls drawn. Leo Lyons of BC Budivelnik Kiev led his team to a thrilling 84-85 road win against BC Triumph Lyubertsy with 26 points, 16 rebounds and 6 fouls drawn, good for a 32 index. Per Guenther of Ulm, who amassed a 28 index, teammate John Bryant, Rado Rancik of CEZ Basketball Nymburk and Nick Calathes of PBC Lokomotiv Kuban, each with a 27 index, complete the top individual performances in Last 16 Game 2. 

Individual highs: Lyons, 16 rebounds 


Eidson had the best scoring effort so far in the Last 16 by scoring 31 points against Ulm. He is tied for first place in the Last 16 with Rancik, each at 27 points per game. Lyons’s 16 rebounds in his team's road win against Triumph Lyubertsy were the most all week. He shares first place among all Last 16 players with Bryant, each with 12.5 boards per night. Calathes was the only player to reach double digits in assists by dishing 11 against Zielona Gora. He also leads the Last 16 table at 9 assists per night. His teammate Simas Jasaitis collected 3 steals to lead all players in Last 16 Game 2. Jasaitis and Valencia Basket big man Bojan Dubljevic lead the Last 16 standings, each with 3 steals per night. Derrick Brown of Lokomotiv had 3 blocks this week. Surprisingly enough, point guard Zach Wright of Spartak St. Petersburg leads the blocks standings at 2 per game. Five players - Calathes, Lyons, Eidson, Bryant and Latavious Williams of Cajasol Seville - registered respective double-doubles this week.
