Eurocup regular season Game 5 MVP: Ebi Ere, Pepsi Caserta

EuroCup

An outstanding performance in a winning effort was needed for Ebi Ere of Pepsi Caserta to become the Eurocup regular season Week 5 MVP. Ere helped Caserta to seal a ticket to the Last 16 with a resounding 94-67 home win against Krasnye Krylia. Ere had 32 points on 7-of-9 two-pointers and 5-of-8 three-pointers. He added 9 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 blocks, an assist and 7 fouls drawn to amass a 35 performance index rating, the highest for any Eurocup player on a winning team this week. It was by virtue of his team's victory that Ere became MVP of the Week ahead of Besiktas Cola Turka playmaker Mire Chatman, who had the week's highest index rating, 53. In fact, Chatman registered the second-best individual performance in competition history. The best was 55 by Priest Lauderdale for Lukoil Academic in a triple-overtime win against KK Zagreb in the 2003-04 season. Chatman scored 43 points on 12-of-14 two-pointers and 16-of-18 free throws, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 12 fouls drawn. Willie Solomon of Hapoel Jerusalem had a 37 index rating against VEF Riga - but again, in a losing effort. Solomon had 24 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 blocks and 7 fouls drawn. Davon Jefferson of Asvel Basket (index 34) and Primoz Brezec of Krylia (32) completed the best individual performances this week.

Individual highs: Maciej Lampe of Unics, 14 rebounds

It comes as no surprise that Chatman was the top scorer this week with 43 points. In fact, Chatman had the third-best scoring night in competition history. Randy Duck has the all-time scoring record with 49 points for Brighton Bears and Bobby Brown had 44 for Alba Berlin in his team's legendary five-overtime win against Bosna. Solomon is the Eurocup's top scorer at 20.8 points per game. Lampe pulled down 14 rebounds in his team's home win against EWE Baskets Oldenburg. Lazaros Papadopoulos of PAOK is first in rebounds at 12.6 per night. Stefan Markovic of Benetton Basket Bwin and Trenton Meacham of BG Goettingen each dished 9 assists this week. Gal Mekel of Hapoel Gilboa/Galil and Marko Popovic of Unics - who got injured last week - tie for first place overall at 7 per game. Eight players collected 4 steals this week, including overall leader Dontaye Draper of Cedevita (3.25 spg.). Brian Randle of Hapoel Jerusalem had 4 blocks, more than anyone this week. He is also first overall at 2.4 blocks per game. Jefferson, Lampe, Papadopoulos, Vangelis Sklavos of Panellinios, Fedor Likholitov of Besiktas Cola Turka and Jason Boone of BG Goettingen registered respective double-doubles in this round.
