EuroCup Regular Season, Round 8 MVP: Danilo Barthel, FC Bayern Munich

After eight rounds in the 7DAYS EuroCup regular season there is one team that seems to be one step ahead of the rest: FC Bayern Munich. Still undefeated and already qualified for the Top 16, the German team grabbed a new win in Round 8 against Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem and Danilo Barthel led the effort with a peformance index rating of 33 that earned him the MVP honor. In this career best performance, Barthel netted 21 points, including 10 of 11 free throws, pulled 3 rebounds, dished 1 assists and had 2 steals. In fact, his only missed shot was a free throw as his 21 points were not only a personal record for him, but led Bayern to a club-record 111 points in the EuroCup. Dominique Sutton of Dolomiti Energia Trento came right after him with a PIR of 32 to lead his team to a huge road win at Tofas Bursa. Sutton set his personal scoring and rebounds records with 24 and 12, respectively. He also added 3 assists, 3 steals and 9 fouls drawn. The top individual performances of the round were completed by Boris Diaw of Levallois Metropolitans (PIR 31), Sergey Karasev of Zenit St Petersburg (PIR 30), and two players with PIRs of 29: Herbalife Gran Canaria's DJ Seeley and Partizan NIS Belgrade's Nigel Williams-Goss.

Individual leaders: Stephane Lasme, season’s best 6 blocks

Trey Lewis of ratiopharm Ulm had his best game of the season yet and led all scorers in this round with 28 points, even if it was not enough for his team to win at Gran Canaria. Scottie Wilbekin of Darussafaka Istanbul top the scoring charts with 19.0 points per game. Sutton and his 12 boards were no match for anyone this week under the glass, but Drew Gordon of Zenit is still the main man with 8.3 rebounds per game after eight rounds. Emir Preldzic of revitalized Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul was the only player to reach double digits in assists with 10. Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius's Chris Kramer remains the best passer, however, with 7.3 assists per duel. On the defensive end, Galatasaray's Alex Renfroe shined this round with 8 steals, a ranking that he also co-leads for the season, together with Howard Sant-Ross of Darussafaka, at 2.0 steals per game. Finally, under the rims, Stephane Lasme had a new personal record for him with as many as 6 blocks against UNICS Kazan and tied the third-best mark ever in the EuroCup. No player had had that many blocks for more than three years. He also leads the season standings with his 2.5 stops per game, one more than the players right after him.
