Unics Kazan signs Martins Meiers

Unics Kazan reached an agreement with center Martins Meiers to work together next season, the club announced Tuesday. Meiers (2.08 meters, 26 years old) arrives from VEF Riga, where he averaged 13.8 points on 86.8% free throws and 5.6 rebounds in 26 VTB League games last season. He had played in his native Latvia for the majority of his career, starting his career with Jurmalas Sports Fenikss. Meiers also played for Ventspils and Liepajas Lauvas of Latvia, as well as for Mitteldeutscher Weissenfels of Germany. He helped Ventspils win a Baltic League title in 2013 and also lifted the Latvian League trophy with VEF last season. Meiers is also a regular member of the Latvian national team. Meiers took pat in 11 7DAYS EuroCup games in the last, all with Ventspils, averaging 4.1 points and 2.2 rebounds.
