Popovic becomes the all-time Eurocuo top scorer
Two-time EuroCup champion Marko Popovic added another title to his storied career on Wednesday by becoming the all-time EuroCup scoring king. Popovic passed Mire Chatman with his 1,188th point on a free throw with 7:37 to go in the fourth quarter in Montakit Fuenlabrada’s 100-76 loss at Herbalife Gran Canaria Las Palmas on Wednesday at Gran Canaria Arena. He finished the game with 15 points and 1,188 for his career, but will not be able to add to his record since Fuenlabrada did not advance to the quarterfinals. Popovic is also the competition’s career leader in three-pointers with 207 and ranks sixth all-time in assists with 331.
Popovic is one of the 7DAYS EuroCup’s signature stars. He won the competition in 2011 with Unics Kazan when he was named the finals MVP and again in 2015 with Khimki Moscow Region. He started his EuroCup career with KK Zadar of his native Croatia before playing three seasons with Khimki and two more with Unics. This is his second campaign with Fuenlabrada, but first in the EuroCup. The combo-guard also played a total of eight seasons in the EuroLeague with Zadar and Cibona Zagreb of Croatia, Valencia Basket of Spain, Efes Pilsen of Turkey and Zalgiris Kaunas of Lithuania
