Italy will have one spot in EuroLeague and two in EuroCup next season
Legabasket president Bianchi hopeful to have a third team in EuroCup with a wild card. About rule on foreigners: the goal is to allow 7 foreigners, regardless of their passports and 5 Italians
Italian clubs will return to play in EuroCup from next season.
The news was confirmed by Legabasket president Egidio Bianchi in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I spoke with Bertomeu. We will have one spot in EuroLeague (Olimpia Milano) and two in EuroCup. We are working to get one of the wild cards” Bianchi said.
Italy had three teams in EuroCup for this season plus a wild card but they withdrew from the competition after FIBA and FIP’s threats to be excluded from Serie A.
Legabasket is also tried to change the rule on foreigners. The goal of Serie A teams is to have 7 foreigners, regardless of passports (they can be all American as well) and five Italians. With money prizes for the teams that will use more Italians.
