7DAYS EuroCup Top 16 groups: excellence and tradition
The 7DAYS EuroCup Top 16 is set with four new groups that each feature at least one former champion of the competition
After a well-fought regular season, the 7DAYS EuroCup Top 16 is set with four new groups that each feature at least one former champion of the competition, promising excellence and tradition when the action resumes during the first week of 2017!
The new groups of four teams each will play round-robin home-and-away games against each other during six consecutive weeks between January 4 and February 8.
Group E is headed by Herbalife Gran Canaria Las Palmas of Spain, which was last season's runner-up and the co-owner of this regular season's best record, 7-1. Gran Canaria will be joined by fellow Spanish sides Montakit Fuenlabrada and UCAM Murcia, and 2013 EuroCup champion Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar of Russia.
Group F features a two-time champion of the competition, Khimki Moscow Region of Russia, which won its regular season group with a 6-2 record. Khimki, which took the title in 2012 and 2015, is joined by FC Bayern Munich and ratiopharm Ulm, both of Germany, and by EuroCup newcomer Lietkabelis Panevezys of Lithuania.
At the top of Group G is another Russian side, Zenit St. Petersburg, thanks to its group-winning 6-2 regular season record. Zenit will test itself now against 2004 champion Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem of Israel, as well as fellow Russian club Nizhny Novgorod and Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius, another two-time EuroCup champion, in 2005 and 2009.
And Group H will have Valencia Basket, the EuroCup's only three-time champion (2003, 2010 and 2014), but also the other team that posted the regular season's best, 7-1 record. Valencia is joined in the new group by Cedevita Zagreb of Croatia, ALBA Berlin of Germany and fellow Spanish side Unicaja Malaga.
Get ready for the 7DAYS EuroCup Top 16 starting on Wednesday, January 4, 2017!
