EuroCup Regular Season Round 9 MVP: Elmedin Kikanovic, ALBA Berlin
Kikanovic is the MVP of Round 9
For the second time this season, and against the same opponent, Elmedin Kikanovic of ALBA Berlin has earned the MVP of the Week honor in the 7DAYS EuroCup. Kikanovic led ALBA to a Top 16-clinching 97-99 road win on Wednesday against Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius with 29 points based on dominant 13-for-18 two-point shooting. He went 3-for-3 on free throws, as well, and added 3 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and 3 fouls drawn for a performance index rating of 33, the highest among all EuroCup players in Regular Season Round 9. Kikanovic had already shined against Rytas five rounds earlier, amassing a PIR of 35 in their classic double-overtime battle, won by ALBA, but in that game he had just 22 points after 40 minutes. He has scored 15 points or better in each EuroCup game this season, but most important is that Wednesday's win in Vilnius broke a three-game losing streak to send ALBA to the Top 16. DeAndre Kane of Nizhny Novgorod helped his team get an 82-97 road win against MZT Skopje Aerodom with 22 points as he made 5 of 6 two-point shots and 4 of 5 three-pointers to go with 6 assists and 5 rebounds, good for a PIR of 28. Ryan Toolson of Zenit St. Petersburg led his team to a 95-97 road triumph against Buducnost VOLI Podgorica with 32 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and a PIR of 27. Ksistof Lavrinovic of Lietkabelis Panevezys and Charlon Kloof of Skopje, each with a PIR of 26, completed the top individual performances for Regular Season Round 9.
