Last 32 Round 3 MVP: Martynas Gecevicius, Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius

Martynas Gecevicius is already one of the most decorated players in the Eurocup and now the Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius guard has another accolade to his name. Gecevicius recorded one of the best games of his career on Wednesday to claim Eurocup Last 32 Round 3 MVP honors. In leading Rytas to a 100-78 blowout win over Baloncesto Seville, he posted Eurocup career highs of 26 points, 7 three-pointers made, 7 rebounds and a performance index rating of 38 in 26 minutes played. Gecevicius also had 9 assists and committed just 1 turnover. His index rating was the highest of any player in Last 32 Round 3 and tied for the fourth best all season. Suad Sehovic of Buducnost VOLI Podgorica also had a career night in leading his side to a 93-86 win over Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari. Sehovic posted a 37 index after going for career highs of 27 points and 13 boards. Strasbourg playmaker Antoine Diot made 6-of-7 three-pointers in amassing 30 points in his team’s 87-80 victory over CEZ Basketball Nymburk. He also grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 3 assists for an index rating of 36, which was the third highest of the week. CAI Zaragoza forward Stevan Jelovac was next on the list of Last 32 Round 3 stars with 27 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals for a 35 index rating in a 71-66 loss at Krasny Oktyabr Volgograd. Rounding out the list of the week’s best performances were Keith Langford of Unics Kazan, Matt Howard of Strasbourg and Jordan Morgan of Virtus Rome, each with index ratings of 32.

Antione Diot’s 30-point effort was not only the best of Last 32 Round 3, but also the best in the Last 32 all season and his career high. Rakim Sanders of Dinamo Sassari leads all Last 32 scorers with an average of 23 points per game. Sehovic’s 13 rebounds were the most of the week. Anthony Randolph of Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar is averaging 11 per game to top the Last 32 charts. The week’s MVP Gecevicius and JDA Dijon point guard Erving Walker were the weekly leaders in assists with 9. No one had more steals than either Mustafa Shakur of Neptunas or Frandon Triche of Rome, who each had 5. PAOK forward Evangelos Margaritis of PAOK Thessaloniki tops the Last 32 sheets with 3.3 steals per game. Chris Cooper of CSU Asesoft Ploiesti swatted 5 shots in Valencia and Shane Lawal of Sassari did the same at Buducnost to rise to the top of the weekly charts. Seven players recorded double doubles in Last 32 Round 3: Sehovic, Adrien Moerman of Limoges, John Bryant of FC Bayern Munich, Matt Howard of Strasbourg, Jordan Morgan of Rome, Randolph of Lokomotiv Kuban and Trevor Mbakwe of Brose Baskets Bamberg.
