Mire Chatman made Eurocup history on Wednesday as the Ventspils guard took over from Todor Stoykov as the competition's all-time leading scorer. The duo entered Wednesday’s game tied for the top spot with 1,138 points, put Chatman broke the tie in the first minute of his team's home game against Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar by draining a three-pointer from the wing.

Chatman, 36, is one of the most-accomplished players in Eurocup history. His career scoring average of 16.0 points per game (entering Wednesday’s contest) is the highest of any player among the competition’s top 10 career scorers. Chatman is in his eighth Eurocup season and back with the team he debuted in the competition – then called the ULEB Cup – with in 2003. He has since suited up for Dynamo Moscow, Triumph Lyubertsy and Unics Kazan in Russia and Besiktas in Turkey. Chatman won the 2006 ULEB Cup with Dynamo. Chatman is also the Eurocup’s all-time leader in performance index rating (1,405 index), steals (163), turnovers (216), free throws made (293) and attempted (395) and fouls drawn (398) and is third in career assists (281).

Stoykov was the Eurocup’s leading scorer for much of the competition's history after filling the baskets with ease for Lukoil Academic Sofia in the first years of the ULEB Cup. He retired after the 2012-13 campaign. Chatman’s grip on first place is not too tight with CEZ Basketball Nymburk big man Rado Rancik (1,127 points) not far behind, though Rancik has missed the last four games through injury.
