Triobet BBL confirms competition format for 2016-17 season
The Regular season will start on October 11, 2016
The framework for 2016-17 Triobet BBL campaign was finalized and confirmed in a board meeting in Riga, establishing the list of participating teams and the competition format for the upcoming season, which will feature 14 teams from five different countries in the Regular Season.
In addition to Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian sides, Belarus and Kazakhstan will also be represented. For the Regular Season, clubs were divided into two groups consisting of seven teams each.
Group A: Port of Parnu, AVIS Rapla, Barons LDz, Jurmala/Fenikss, Liepaja/Triobet, Nevezis, Barsy Atyrau
Group B: Rakvere Tarvas, TTU, Valmiera/ORDO, Jekabpils, Ogre Kuhmo Tyres, Pieno Zvaigzdes, Borisfen
The top four teams from each group will guarantee themselves Eight-Final berth, with the remaining eight spots reserved for teams who are participating in continental competitions.
Like in the last edition of the Triobet BBL, such teams would join the Play-Offs only if they do not qualify for the Elimination Rounds in their respective continental competitions. If they were to successfully advance, it would free up spots in the Triobet BBL Eight-Final round for the remaining best-placed Regular Season teams.
In determining the Play-Off bracket and the Eight-Final pairs in particular, the teams from the Triobet BBL Regular Season will be ranked lower than teams from European competitions.
The seeding order of teams that will not compete in the Regular Season will be determined by the combined results of the past three seasons in domestic leagues and Triobet BBL.

3. Ventspils
4. Vytautas
5. Lietkabelis
6. Juventus
7. Kalev/Cramo
8. TLU/Kalev
Like in previous editions of the Triobet BBL, the best-of-two format will be used in all rounds of Play-Offs, with the higher-seeded team hosting the second of the two games.
However, teams who did not participate in the Regular Season will not have home-court advantage against clubs who did play in the Regular Season, therefore playing the home leg first despite technically having a higher seed.
After the Eight-Final, Quarter-Final and Semi-Final rounds, the final standings of the 2016-17 Triobet BBL season will be determined in the Triobet BBL Finals and the Bronze-Medal series, also held in the same format.
Teams placed 1st to 8th in the 2016-17 Triobet BBL season will directly qualify for the 2017-18 season.
