Maccabi Tel Aviv won't play in Adriatic League next season
Dopo un anno l'MTA lascia
Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv had a great season in which it won the ABA League trophy, its first so far. But problems with coordination of playing in three league put the Israeli basketball gigant in serious consideration about its furture way and on Friday Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv announced it will not continue in ABA League despite still having a valid contract.
»We have been talking to the Israeli league during the last two weeks concerning the future participation of Maccabi in the league. Although we have not as yet reached an understanding we do understand that it is very important for you to realize the status of Maccabi in the ABA league. After careful consideration and taking into account the increased number of games in the Euro League, it is becoming clear to us that it will be practically impossible to participate in 3 leagues. And it will be wrong for us not to participate in the local league. In view of the above, we regret to advise you that we will have to withdraw from the ABA league as of the coming season. As you know, this has been a very difficult decision for us and obviously for me personally. Maccabi Basketball Club has enjoyed very much indeed our participation in the ABA league and we have the highest respect for your organization and the kindness and incredible hospitalityThat you have provided to us. We sincerely hope that we will keep our close cooperation and hopefully enjoy future endeavors,« Maccabi's owner David Federman wrote in the official statement on Friday.
