At the coctail party for the media before the ABA League final game in Belgrade, GM of ABA League Roman Lisac announced that the Bulgarian side Levski Sofia, the reigning Bulgarian Cup champions and Balkan League runners up, will join the league from the next season.
„I would welcome the president of the new ABA League member Levski Sofia to our family. We have made an agreement with them that in case they fulfill all the conditions from the contract, Levski joins our league from the next season and that they stay in the league for 3 seasons," were the words of Lisac on Sunday.
Levski Sofia, founded in 1923, is one of the most famous clubs in Bulgaria and one of those with the richest basketball tradition. They have won 17 Bulgarian national championship and 15 national cup trophies. For the past few years they have participated in the regional Balkan League and won the competition in 2010. This season they have reached the final of Balkan League, where they will face Israeli side Galil Gilboa in Priština. They play their home matches at the Universiade Hall in Sofia.
In ABA League, the Bulgarians will replace Szolnoki Olaj, which decided to leave the competition after two seasons and rejoin the Hungarian national championship from the beginning of the forthcoming 2014/15 season.
