Paolo Marinelli officially signs with Union Olimpija Ljubljana
The young player moves to Slovenia
As Sportando already reported, Union Olimpija inked young Croatian playmaker Paolo Marinelli (191 cm, 1995) on four-year deal. He comes from Croatian club Split, where he played last two seasons. Paolo Marinelli started his basketball career in Rijeka, Croatia, where he played for basketball club Jadran. He stayed there until middle of 2011/2012 season, when he moved to Split. He debuted amongst seniors already at age of 16. In his first season in Split, he averaged 2,4 points and 1,3 assists per game in Croatian League. Marinelli debuted in Adriatic League in 2012/2013 season with Split. He averaged 1.3 points per game in 10 minutes of playing time. In Croatian League, he averaged 6 points and 2 assists per game in 20 minutes of playing time in same season. He also played for youth team of Split and won the Croatian youth title. Marinelli is also an important part of Croatian youth National Teams. He was part of U16 Croatian NT that won European Championship U16 in Czech Republic. He averaged 11.7 points and 1.9 assists per game in that tournament. In 2012, he played for Croatian U17 team that participated at World Championship and finished at third place. His stats in that tournament were 6.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. During the summer of 2013, Marinelli also competed at European Championship U18 in Latvia, where his team made it to the final. He was selected to all-tournament team. He averaged 11 points, 1.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game.
