La guardia americana P.J. Hairston ha deciso di ritirarsi dal basket professionistico a soli 25 anni di età. Nel suo annuncio sui social media, Hairston ha citato la sua salute tra i motivi della sua decisione, oltre al fatto di non avere più niente da dimostrare nel mondo del basket.

Hairston, prodotto di North Carolina, era stato chiamato dagli Charlotte Hornets (via Miami) con la 26^ scelta del Draft 2014. Con gli Hornets ha trascorso la sua stagione da rookie e parte di quella da sophomore, prima di essere ceduto ai Memphis Grizzlies a febbraio 2016. In NBA ha registrato una media di 6 punti e 2.4 rimbalzi in 18 minuti a partita.

Ha giocato in NBA G League con i Rio Grande Valley Vipers nel 2016-17 mentre la scorsa stagione è stato fermo.

 

Today is probably one of the saddest days of my life as I decide to walk away from basketball. Thank you to my true fans, supporters, family, friends, and most importantly, the haters. I’ve done things with this game that I never imagined myself doing. This young kid from the East side of Greensboro never imagined playing against the greatest, going to the best college on this earth, and playing with some of the best coaches and teammates ever. I’m highly blessed and hopefully I can still give my gift to the youth and give them a path to greatness. At this point in my life, I feel I don’t have anymore to prove to anyone that has not been at the highest level. My passion for the game will always be there and I will forever stick around the game of basketball, I just feel that health is my best choice right now and being healthy is way too important. Again, thank you to everyone that stuck with me throughout all of these years, I love you all ????????❤️

    Quando si parla di salute...certo che deve essere devastante dover rinunciare al sogno che hai sin da bambino. Ce n'è un altro che a leggere in giro ancora vorrebbe rientrare nonostante i problemi di coaguli di sangue.
