Maccabi Hunter Haifa sign Rashaun Freeman and Anton Shoutvin

It's official

The Maccabi Hunter Haifa professional basketball team of the Israeli Basketball Super League announced today that they have signed power forward/center Rashaun Freeman and power forward Anton Shoutvin through the remainder of the 2016-17 season. Per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Freeman, 32, appeared in 34 games this season for Hispano Americano de Rio Gallegos in Argentina’s top division while posting averages of 10.6 points and 5.2 rebounds in 20.8 minutes per game. Prior to Hispano, Freeman helped guide Hebraica Macabi Montevideo to a 2015-16 Uruguayan title, tallying 16.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 steals in 20 games. He started the season in Argentina for Boca Juniors, where he recorded similar averages of 16.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 17 games.

The 6-foot-9, 255-pound power forward/center has had two stints in Israel for B.C. Habikaa (2011-12) season and Barak Netanya (2013-14). In 45 games in Israel, Freeman owns combined careers averages of 15.5 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.3 steals in 28.9 minutes per game.

A nine-year veteran, Freeman won a Belarussian league championship and Cup title for Tsmoki Minsk during the 2014-15 season. He has also played professionally in Belgium, Bosnia, China, France, Germany and Puerto Rico.

A native of Schenectady, NY, Freeman played collegiately at UMass Amherst from 2003-07. He finished his career at UMass ranked fourth all-time in scoring (1,744), third in rebounds (998) and fourth in field goal percentage (.559).

Shoutvin, 28, returns to Israel for his third stint with Maccabi Hunter Haifa after appearing in 41 games for BK Iskra Svit in Slovakia’s top division, tallying 15.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 26.4 minutes per game.
The 6-foot-9 power forward was a member of the 2012-13 Maccabi Haifa championship team, averaging 3.1 points while shooting 57.1 percent from three-point range in 6.5 minutes per game in 20 games. After a short stint with Gilboa Galil in 2013-14, Shoutvin won an Israeli second division title with Ironi Nahariya, appearing in 25 games and averaged 8.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 21.5 minutes. He returned to the Greens for the 2014-15 season, posting averages of 1.2 points in 4.7 minutes in 23 games.

Prior to Haifa, Shoutvin appeared in 22 games in 2011-12 for the Israeli Super League’s runner-up Maccabi Ashdod, posting averages of 3.5 points and 1.6 rebounds in 9.8 minutes per game. During the 2010-11 season with Freiburg in Germany’s second division, Shoutvin averaged 10.4 points and 3.9 rebounds in 30 games.

Born in Voroshilovgrad (Ukraine), Shoutvin has had brief stints with Gilboa Galil (2009-10), Maccabi Tel Aviv (2008-09), and Givat Shmuel (2008-09).
