Rene Rougeau signs a two-year deal
Maccabi Bazan Haifa, the 2013-14 Israeli Basketball Super League runner-up, announced today they have signed forward Rene Rougeau to a two-year contract. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Rougeau, 28, is currently playing for Caballeros de Culiacan in Mexico’s CIBACOPA league, appearing in 33 games while posting averages of 20.5 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in 37.5 minutes.
The 6-foot-6 forward began the season for Toros de Nuevo Laredo in Mexico’s top division, appearing in 35 games and averaged 17.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.2 blocks while shooting 50 percent (12-24) from three-point range. In 3 Liga Americas games for the Toros, Rougeau averaged 18.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in 32.0 minutes per game. After an All-Star season in Mexico, Rougeau signed with Bucaneros de La Guaira in Venezuela’s top division for the playoff stretch. In 9 games for the Bucaneros, Rougeau averaged 9.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.9 steals, and 1.0 blocks in 27.9 minutes per game.
A two-time Mexican League champion with Toros de Nuevo Laredo (played alongside Ike Ofoegbu and Adrian Henning) in 2010-11 and 2012-13, Rougeau was named All-Mexican League Player of the Year in 2011 by Latinbasket.com after appearing in 52 games, posting averages of 15.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.2 steals while shooting 34.9 percent from three-point land.

A native of Sacramento, California, Rougeau played four seasons at Division I UNLV, earning a trip to the Sweet 16 during his sophomore season in 2006-07.
