Eurocup regular season Game 2 co-MVPs: Mejia, McKee

For the first time this season, two players share Eurocup weekly MVPs honors due to their outstanding performances in respective winning efforts. Sammy Mejia of Banvit BK Bandirma and Tywain McKee of BC Triumph Lyubertsy not only led their teams to big home wins, but became Eurocup regular season Game 2 co-MVPs, each with a performance index ranking of 35. Mejia led Banvit to a 101-82 home win over s.Oliver Baskets Wuerzburg with 23 points on 8-of-10 two-point and 2-of-2 three-point shooting. He added 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 steals and 5 fouls drawn for his 35 index. McKee helped Triumph to beat Artland Dragons Quakenbrueck 84-79 in overtime with 22 points on 8-of-9 free throw shooting, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 9 fouls drawn. Another of the week’s stars was Caleb Green, who helped Orleans Loiret Basket beat Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari 88-75 with 23 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 6 fouls drawn for a 34 index rating. The list of Week 2’s top performers also includes Brian Asbury of Cajasol Seville and Jimmy Baron of PBC Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar, who each tallied 32 index ratings. 


Individual highs: Aleks Maric of Lokomotiv, 14 rebounds 

Baron led all scorers in regular season Game 2 with 29 points against Trefl Sopot, though Asbury is the Eurocup's top scorer after 2 games with an average of 22.5 per night. His teammate Maric pulled down 14 rebounds to lead the weekly standings. Maric is also the only player to average double digits in rebounds at 11 boards per night. Nikos Zisis of Gescrap Bilbao Basket dished 9 assists, more than anyone this week, in his team's road win at Belgacom Spirou Charleroi. Zisis is tied with Travis Diener of Sassari atop the overall standings at 7.5 assists per game. Mejia, Axel Hervelle of Gescrap, Vojdan Stojanovski of BC Donetsk and Giorgi Tsintsadze of BC Budivelnik Kiev each collected 4 steals this week. Mire Chatman of Unics Kazan leads the steals list at 3.5 per night. Chatman also ranks second on the competition’s all-time steals list with 135 – just 13 behind overall leader Andre Riddick of Spirou. Ondrej Balvin of Cajasol and Keaton Nankivil of Ratiopharm Ulm each had 3 blocks in regular season Game 2. Nankivil and Darryl Watkins of PBC Lukoil Academic Sofia lead the competition in blocks, each with 2 per game. McKee, Maric, Manny Harris (12 points, 10 rebounds) of Azovmash Mariupol and Tony Easley (20 points, 13 rebounds) of Sassari posted respective double-doubles this week.
