Pelicans shut down Anthony Davis for remainder of season

Davis' season is over

NBA

The New Orleans Pelicans shut down Anthony Pelicans for the remainder of the NBA regular season. The Pelicans are out of the playoff picture.

Per USA Today, "We're going to shut him down. He's done for the year," Gentry told reporters ahead of Sunday's game vs. the Los Angeles Clippers. "It's unfortunate but he's got an issue with his shoulder that he's played through the whole season. It's amazing when people talk about him being soft or whatever; they don't understand that he's played through a situation with his shoulder the entire season."

Davis, who was held out of the second half of Friday’s game vs. the Portland Trail Blazers, also banged his knee while setting a screen. "He has an issue with his knee that we're going to get corrected. I think for us, we have to look at things long term, and we have to look at what's best for the future of our franchise. For that reason, he won't play anymore this season."

Davis is eligible to make an extra $24 million on his max extension should he make one of the three All-NBA teams as voted on by selected media members.
