Mark Cuban offers to pay for ex-Mavericks to have heart exams

NBA
As reported by Sportingnews, Mark Cuban announced Friday that the team will offer free heart health exams for any former Mavericks player 50 and older who played at least two seasons with Dallas.

“We have had several tragedies in the NBA family recently with the passing of several legends at a young age,” Cuban said in a statement. “The Mavs want to be proactive to inform and educate our alumni about potential health concerns they may face as they age. To this end, we will be paying for advanced screening for heart disease for our former Mavs over the age of 50.”

This year, heart problems have claimed the lives of several former NBA players, including Moses Malone, Darryl Dawkins, Anthony Mason and Jack Haley. And some of the NBA’s biggest stars, including Wilt Chamberlain and Pete Maravich, died prematurely of heart disease after retiring.
Cuban doesn’t want to see the same thing happen to any former Mavs.

“We want to do our part to make sure the Mavs our fans have come to know and love will be with us for a long, long time,” Cuban said.
