Lakers to sign Kendall Marshall

He was playing in D-League

NBA

Desperate to replenish their guard depth, the Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to a deal with former NBA lottery pick Kendall Marshall, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Marshall, the 13th overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft, was averaging 19.7 points and 9.6 assists per game for the Delaware 87ers of the NBA Development League. The Lakers are in dire need of guard help, losing Steve Blake, Steve Nash and Kobe Bryant to injuries.

Nash will be out another four weeks, the Lakers announced Thursday.

The Lakers plan to turn to Xavier Henry to play point guard in the short term, coach Mike D'Antoni told reporters on Thursday.

After leaving North Carolina after his sophomore season, Marshall played the 2012-13 season with the Phoenix Suns before getting traded in October to the Washington Wizards, who released him. Marshall, who is 6-foot-4, has shown significant improvement in the D-League with Delaware, and has been on the radar of several NBA teams searching for a young point guard to develop.
