Unicaja Malaga announces Kristaps Valters

Spanish power Unicaja made official on Friday the addition of guard Kristaps Valters for one season with an option for another. Valters (1.91 meters, 30 years old) arrives from another Spanish League team, Baloncesto Fuenlabrada, where last season he averaged 10.3 points and 4.2 assists per game. His assist average ranked him fourth in the Spanish League. Valters made his pro debut in 1998 with ASK Broceni of his native Latvia and in 2000 he moved to Turkey to join Efes Pilsen. He played on loan at Muratpasa Antalya of Turkey and then he moved back to Latvia with Skonto Riga. In 2003 he also played in Panionios of Greece but was back to Skonto to finish the year. He made his ULEB Cup debut with Snaidero Udine of Italy in 2006-07 and then moved to Russia to play with Triumph Lyubersty. It was then that he arrived to Spain to join Fuenlabrada in 2008 and then in 2009 he switched teams and signed for DKV Joventut. He was back to Fuenla for the 2010-11 season. He won the Latvian League with Broceni in 1999 and is a member of the Latvian national team.
