USA earn U19 World Championship gold

The United States triumphed at the U19 World Championshio in New Zealand. They overcame Greek counterparts in the final today. The victory marked the first success for the USA since 1991. Tyshawn Taylor (6'3''-G-90) knocked down 18 points, made 6 assists and 5 steals to pace the USA to the historic win.
The first frame was a classic battle with neither team able to put their noses in front. Kaselakis scored 7 points for Greece but the USA stayed close and the sides were tied at 19 with ten minutes gone in the game. The USA unleashed a massive rally in the second period. They outclassed their opponents 27:11 to enjoy a 16-point advantage at halftime. Greece were not ready to fold just yet. They came out of the dressing room rejuvenated and clawed their way back into the contest. The Hellenes outgunned the USA 21:14 in the third period to trail by just 9 points at the final intermission. The USA opened the fourth period with 5 straight points to take some breathing space but Greece persisted. They trimmed the margin at 8 points midway through the fourth stanza but could get no closer. Klay Thompson (6'6''-G-90) and Ashton Gibbs (6'2''-G) delivered back-to-back trebles and the United States ran away for good in this one.
Ashton Gibbs notched 13 points, while Klay Thompson had 10 points for the winners. Costas Sloukas (6'6''-G-90) answered with 17 points for Greece. Nikolaos Pappas (6'5''-G-90, agency: FCM) had 16 points in the losing effort.
