Ettore Messina is unlikely to remain as head coach of the Italian National Team, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported.
Messina was hired by the Italian Basketball Federation for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament, a competition lost in the final against Croatia last Saturday.
FIP would love to keep Messina as head coach for the future and the two sides are discussing a deal but the coach has a contract with the Spurs for one more season. And his commitments with the NBA franchise may prevent Messina to sign a new contract to coach Italy.
If Messina leaves, Pino Sacripanti, head coach of the Under 20 National Team and Scandone Avellino, is the front runner to replace him.
