(via Interaksyon) After a string of heartbreaking defeats, the Philippine national men’s basketball team remained poised in the endgame to survive Senegal in overtime, 81-79, to wrap up its historic FIBA Basketball World Cup campaign Thursday in Seville, Spain.
The result was the Filipinos’ first victory since their last appearance in the world stage 40 years ago.
Alapag scored 18 points with 4 boards and 4 assists, Blatche added 18 points and 14 rebounds, Fajardo had 15 points and 9 rebounds.
Senegal was led by Faye’s 20 points, Dieng had 13 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists, Ndoye and Ndour scored 13 points each.
