The Best 10 Rookie Deals in Italy

The 10 best rookies signed in Italy this summer

Serie A

We analize the best 10 rookies signed in Italy this summer considering Serie A, A2 Gold and A2 Silver.

Jaye Crockett, power forward, Tortona. A smart choice to play in LNP Silver, more suited to his actual skills, because he has to improve his shooting range and mechanics in order to be able to play at both forward position in better leagues. In Tortona he'll play at the 4 and he could be unstoppable thanks to his freak athleticism, offensive rebounding tools and ability to cut to the basket.

Melvin Ejim, power forward/small forward, Roma. Always more comfortable in playing at the 4, nonetheless he can easily play next to players like Bobby Jones, De Zeeuw and Sandri, even though there's some concern in terms of three point shooting at the forward positions. His signing gives to Roma huge rebounding presence and the much needed player able to move without the ball and play both the pick and roll and the pick and pop.

Markel Starks, point guard, Ferentino. A player with terrific personality and the leadership to immediately take over the team, he has all the tools to play point guard in the second Italian series, and with an improved frame he'll be able to easily play in top-level European competitions. A physical player like Omar Thomas as the team's small forward will fit perfectly with Starks' offensive solutions.

Kendall Williams, point guard, Pesaro. Williams' personality instead has not always been adequate and his game a little too erratic, otherwise he surely won't have been available for Pesaro at the type of money he has signed for. If he'll be able to be more reliable on the court he could be pivotal for his team's play because of his huge physical presence and ability to beat his man off the dribble, helping also a player with little ball-handling ability as is Myles.

Davion Berry, shooting guard/point guard, Torino. In Torino he has a totally different role from what he was used to at Weber State, and in his first season as a pro he'll need to learn to play off the ball and to fit in a secondary role. His toughness and incredible power in getting to the rim, along with his shooting ability, make him a top offensive player in this league, and he's widely considered one of the best rookies in this class.

De'Mon Brooks, power forward, Napoli. An unusual background, since he's a right-handed that has learned to shoot with his left hand, becoming basically an ambidextrous player both in dribbling and shooting. His strong body and low center of gravity make him difficult to guard both back to the basket and in face-up plays, and if he'll be able to further extend his range he could be one of the best big men in LNP Gold.

Troy Huff, small forward, Ferrara. Here's another smart choice from a player who right now is better suited to play in LNP Silver, not having the physique to play at the 3 in better competitions and lacking the fundamentals to play at the 2. The presence of Kenny Hasbrouck can limit his possessions off the dribble and allow him not to rely on his average ball-handling skills, while also making him play mainly off the ball and in catch and shoot sets.

Juvonte Reddic, center/power forward, Pesaro. A player with NBA potential but largely disappointing in terms of awareness, concentration and toughness on the court. In Portsmouth he made a name for himself by playing an unbelievable first half in his first game of the PIT, but an injury cut off his Tournament and left the scouts wondering if it was a real sign of dominance or once again only an erratic flash. If he'll be able to constantly be aggressive and focused he could be unstoppable in the paint and one of the better rebounders of the next Italian season.

Isaiah Armwood, power forward/center, Trento. He has to understand that he won't be asked to score on a regular basis and he'll need to avoid taking bad shots like sometimes he used to at George Washington. Impressive toughness, rebounding prowess and huge defensive versatility are what scouts appreciate more, last year's game against Creighton put him also on NBA-radar, but there's some concern about his frame that could be too skinny to play consistently at the 5.

Karvel Anderson, shooting guard, Imola. Imola has signed one of the best shooters in the last two NCAA seasons, a really tough player who can move without the ball, play off screens and score at an impressive rate particularly in catch and shoot situations. He's not a point guard and his team will have to rely heavily on the playmaking skills of youngsters De Nicolao and Guazzaloca, but next to a hyperactive and tough player like Franko Bushati and having a huge presence in the paint like Jesse Perry, he could easily find spots to score bunch of points.
