EuroLeague
One week after he was formally awarded his bwin MVP for November 2011 trophy, CSKA Moscow center Nenad Krstic was back at it. The big man was a force inside in racking his second double-double in as many games against defending champion Panathinaikos to lead CSKA to a convincing 91-75 victory. The result not only secured CSKA first place in Group B and a No. 1 seed in the upcoming Top 16 Draw, but also lifted the Russian champs to 9-0 – the only team in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague this season with a perfect record through nine games. Krstic was a model of efficiency with 17 points on just 9 shots attempted. He was 9 for 10 from the free-throw line, grabbed 12 rebounds, blocked 1 shot and drew 8 fouls to finish with a performance index rating of 31, which was the best among all the players that took the court in Week 9. The week’s second-best performance by the numbers came from the Week 8 bwin MVP, Nikola Mirotic of Real Madrid. The reigning Rising Star Award winner led the Whites to their fifth straight win, a 101-83 rout of Partizan mt:s, with 21 points on 4-of-5 two-point shooting, 1 of 2 threes, 10 free throws without a miss plus 8 rebounds en route to an index rating of 30. FC Barcelona Regal big man Erazem Lorbek followed in the list of the week’s top performers with an index of 29 in a 77-74 loss at Montepaschi Siena – Barca’s first loss of the season. Lorbek tallied 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting plus 5 rebounds, an assist and a block. Krstic’s teammate, Viktor Khryapa, shined with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals in putting together a 28 index. Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv forward Lior Eliyahu rounded out the list of Week 9 stars with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists for a 25 index rating as the Israeli champs routed Anadolu Efes 96-57.  Individual highs: Paulius Jankunas, 14 rebounds Among the eight players that scored at least 20 points in Week 9, three of the 2011-12 Turkish Airlines Euroleague’s top five scorers were among four tied for the most points. Mirza Teletovic of Caja Laboral, Jaycee Carroll of Real Madrid, Vassilis Spanoulis of Olympiacos and Erazem Lorbek of Barcelona all netted 22 points in their respective games. With 22.8 points per game, Teletovic remains this season’s scoring leader, while Spanoulis is second with 19.8 points and Carroll is fifth at 17.4 per game. Paulius Jankunas of Zalgiris was the best rebounder in Week 9 with 14 to lead his team to a crucial road win at Brose Baskets. CSKA Moscow forward Andrei Kirilenko remains atop the full season leaders with 9 rebounds per game. Former Euroleague MVP Milos Teodosic was the only player in Week 9 to reach double figures in assists when he dished 10 in CSKA Moscow’s win over Panathinaikos. Teodosic increased his average to 5.4 assists per game, which is second only to Madrid’s Sergio Rodriguez with 6 per game. Seven players collected 3 steals apiece to tie for the most in Week 9. Interestingly, none of them are among this season’s top 10 in that category. Pablo Prigioni of Caja Laboral leads all players with an average of 2.2 steals per game. Boris Robert Rothbart of Union Olimpija rejected 4 shots in an 80-59 loss at Galatasaray Medical Park, which represented more blocks than any other player this week. Kirilenko’s 3.2 blocks per game are the most in the Euroleague this season. Week 9 finished with four players registering double-doubles: Krstic, D’Or Fischer of Gescrap BB  (16 points, 10 rebounds), Ioannis Bouroussis of Olympiacos (12 points, 13 rebounds) and Jankunas (10 points, 14 rebounds).
