Week 3 bwin MVP: Jordan Farmar, Maccabi Electra

Prestazione mostruosa dell'ex Lakers

EuroLeague

Jordan Farmar delivered his finest performance to date since joining Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv over the summer to lead the Israeli champs to an 88-82 victory over Real Madrid and earn Week 3 bwin MVP honors. Farmar, a Euroleague rookie, had big shoes to fill this season when he took the spot in the starting lineup of All-Euroleague point guard Jeremy Pargo, who led the Israeli champs to the Euroleague title game last season. But in a highly-anticipated showdown against the team Macccabi bested in the semifinals at last season’s Final Four in Barcelona, Farmar came through using his speed, shot making ability and ball handling skills to post big numbers. He finished with 27 points on 9-of-11 two-point shooting, made his only three-point attempt, and added 5 assists, 4 rebounds and 8 fouls drawn for a performance index rating of 35, which was best in the Euroleague this week. Another newcomer, Partizan mt:s guard Acie Law, also produced his best Euroleague game yet in leading his team to its maiden win this season. Law registered 26 points, 7 assists, 2 steals and just 1 turnover for a 32 index rating – second best in Week 3 – as Partizan topped Belgacom Spirou 91-81 Thursday at Pionir Arena. Third on the list of Week 3 stars is a savvy veteran. Rimantas Kaukenas of Montepaschi Siena went off for 24 points on near-perfect shooting as his team routed Galatasaray Medical Park 103-77 on Wednesday. Kaukenas finished with an index rating of 30. Week 2 bwin MVP Nicolas Batum produced another big night on the road Thursday, but it wasn’t enough to steer SLUC Nancy to victory. Nevertheless, Batum amassed 22 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals as part of his 29 index rating. Rounding out the list of top Week 3 performers is two-time All-Euroleague big man Erazem Lorbek, who had 24 points with just 2 missed shots plus 5 rebounds as FC Barcelona Regal trumped Unics Kazan 65-93 in Russia.

Individual highs: John Linehan, 15 assists

Farmar was not only Week 3’s MVP, but its top scorer too with his 27-point outburst. Mirza Teletovic of Caja Laboral leads all Euroleague scorers through three games with 21.7 points per game. SLUC Nancy players Adrien Moerman and John Linehan both enjoyed memorable individual nights Thursday in Istanbul. Moerman hauled in a Euroleague career-high 15 rebounds, which topped all players in Week 3. He is now tied for fifth place this season with 7.7 rebounds per game. KK Zagreb big man Sean May is the season leader with 9 per game. And Linehan set a new Euroleague record with 15 assists. He is now tied with teammate Batum for the Turkish Airlines Euroleague lead with 7.3 assists per game. Moerman, Linehan and Batum also picked up 4 steals apiece to lead all Week 3 players. They are all among nine players tied for sixth in the Euroleague with an average of 2 steals per game. Caja Laboral playmaker Pablo Prigioni leads the league with 3 per game. The top shot-blocker this week was Andre Riddick of Belgacom Spirou, who rejected 4 Partizan shots. Riddick is now tied for fifth in the Euroleague with 1.7 blocks per game. CSKA Moscow forward Andrei Kirilenko is the league-leader with 2.7 blocks per game. Two players enjoyed double-doubles in Week 3: Moerman (11 points, 15 rebounds) and Olympiacos big man Ioannis Bourousis (11 points, 10 rebounds).
