EuroLeague

Asseco Prokom’s veteran center Ratko Varda was at his best on Thursday night, scoring a career-high 25 points in a crucial contest against a former team. Unfortunately for Varda, his performance was not enough to lead Prokom to victory. Zalgiris edged Prokom 69-72 in a game that went to the closing seconds, but as a consolation prize, Varda can take pride in winning Sportingbet Week 8 MVP honors. Varda tallied his 25 points on 10-of-12 two-point shooting in addition to 8 rebounds, 2 steals and a block, numbers that equaled a 31 performance index rating, the best in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague for Week 8 of the regular season. Varda also became the first Prokom player to ever earn Euroleague weekly MVP honors. Armani Jeans Milano swingman David Hawkins had the second-best performance of the week when he recorded 24 points, 5 assists and 2 steals en route to a 30 index in his team’s 84-70 victory over Efes Pilsen.
