Pape Sow heads back to Polish Champions!

Asseco Prokom has concluded a deal to sign a one year contract with center, Pape Sow, who left Gdynia’s team one year ago.

He arrived to Poland in the midst of 2007/2008 campaign, with a task to fill the void after injured center Tomas Van den Spiegel. His athleticism and aggressiveness in the paint were great addition to the team and in the Finals against Turów Zgorzelec he helped Prokom to win 5th straight Polish Championship. In PLK Pape averaged 8.5 points, 5 rebounds and over 0.5 blocks while playing 22 games, he played only two games in Euroleague and in Polish Cup tallying respectively (26 points and 16rebounds; 14 points and 9 rebounds) .

208 cm high center spent 2008/2009 season in Italian AJ Milano. He played a key role in Serie A averaging 8 points, 5.4 rebounds while playing 19 minutes in 22 games and also in Euroleague where he averaged 8.3 points, 5 rebounds and 0.5 blocked shots while playing 19 minutes in 12 games. In Euroleague he had solid performances against … Asseco Prokom tallying 6 points, 9 rebounds and 4 steals in an away game in Gdynia and scoring 18 points in Milano. His best performance in Euroleague was against Tau Ceramica when he tallied 25 points and 5 rebounds against the Spaniards from Vitoria.

Sow began 2007/2008 season playing in Italy with Sebastiani Rieti, taking part in 19 games during which he averaged 13.5 points and 9.4 rebounds before moving to Prokom. 27 year old center played in the NBA with Toronto, appearing in 76 games – including 29 starts – over three seasons.

Dakar born Pape was starter for his National Team during AfroBasket 2009. Senegal reached quarterfinals where they were handed a surprising loss by Ivory Coast. In 9 tournament games he averaged 6.7 points and 6.9 boards while playing 21 minutes. Senegal finished the tournament with a win. They outplayed Mali for the 7th place on the event.
