One of Euroleague Basketball's long-standing broadcasting partners, Israel's Sports Channel, will remain the home of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague for years to come. The two sides signed a deal that will keep Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games on the Sports Channel through the end of the 2021-22 season, with an option for an additional three seasons.
Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv's EuroLeague games remain among the most popular events for the Sports Channel. The new agreement will give the Sports Channel more games to show than ever before as the competition embarks on an exciting, new era in which all of the continent's top teams playing each other for the first time in European club basketball history. As part of the new agreement, Sports Channel will also have the rights to the weekly EuroLeague highlights show.
"We are delighted that Sports Channel, our long-term partner in Israel, will be with us well into the future, too, because they do such a consistently great job of bringing more and more fans to basketball," Jordi Bertomeu, Euroleague Basketball President and CEO, said. "Sports Channel's commitment to EuroLeague shows how strongly they believe in the progress of the past and the improvements made as we start this new era. Basketball fans in Israel can be sure they'll have more and better basketball excitement from the Turkish Airlines EurLeague and Sports Channel, together."
The Sports Channel is one of the largest networks in Israeli television with five different dedicated sports channels, including several that broadcast in HD formats. In addition to the EuroLeague, the Sports Channel owns the broadcasting rights to several local competitions, including the Israeli Basketball Super League and the Israeli Basketball cup, as well as international soccer, tennis, car racing, Israeli football league, the Champions League and the NBA.
Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games were covered with more than 25,000 hours of broadcasting time around the world last season and generated an accumulated audience of 2.4 billion, of which 750 million was digital viewership. All of those figures are expected to rise this season with an increase to 30 regular season games before the playoffs and Final Four.
