Jordi Bertomeu on FIBA: 'Trying to kill clubs is not the solution, it's only frustration'

He spoke with Italian newspaper 'Il Corriere della Sera'

EuroLeague

Jordi Bertomeu, CEO of Euroleague, made an interview with Italian newspaper 'Il Corriere della Sera' where he talked about the war ongoing  between Euroleague and FIBA. Bertomeu called FIBA's reaction just brutal and invited Italian federation to fight against FIBA and their threats. Here's some extracts from his interview:

"FIBA's reaction has been brutal," said Bertomeu. "They keep talking about meritocracy but then how they could go to Spain and Lithuania, whom conquered the qualification to the Olympics games on the court, and said: 'you cannot go to Rio de Janeiro'. That's just insane".

Bertomeu also talked about Gianni Petrucci, the president of Italian federation: "If I were Gianni Petrucci, I'd go to FIBA and say: 'Do you want to relocate the OQT of Turin? Ok, I'll sue you. But so far he only talked about the decision of Reggio Emilia, Sassari and Trento to play in Eurocup".

"I'm 100% sure that the court will say that we're right and that FIBA cannot behave in this way. We're always in touch with Italian clubs, they have our full support. Euroleague will protect them. FIBA needs to understand that trying to kill the clubs is not the solution, it's just an admission of frustration".
