Two MVPs this round in Euroleague

EuroLeague

Two of this Turkish Airlines Euroleague season's most dominant players did it again on Friday! CSKA Moscow guard Nando De Colo and Laboral Kutxa Vitoria Gasteiz center Ioannis Bourousis led their teams to come-from-behind victories that also clinched home-court advantage in the playoffs for each. In doing so, each compiled performance index ratings of 35, which were the highest among all players this week and made them co-MVPs for Top 16 Round 13. De Colo posted his new career-high index rating in a 100-86 home win over Zalgiris Kaunas. He amassed 26 points on just 11 shots, making 3 of 4 three-pointers and all 7 of his free throws. De Colo also collected 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 1 block in claiming his second weekly MVP honor of the season. He leads the league in average PIR this season at 24.1 per game. Bourousis kept Laboral afloat until Davis Bertan's dramatic game-winning three-pointer gave the team an 89-88 victory over defending champion Real Madrid. Bourousis posted his 11th double-double of the season with 25 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. The weekly MVP honor is Bourousis's third of the Top 16 and fourth this season. Bourousis is second only to De Colo in average index rating this season at 22.4. Laboral guard Mike James also had a big role in that victory after scoring 18 third-quarter points to bring his team back. James finished with 27 points on 6-of-6 three-point shooting for a PIR of 30, all of which are career bests. Rounding out the top individual performances for the week were James Augustine of Khimki Moscow Region and Jamon Gordon of Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul. Augustine posted a double-double in a spectacular 98-66 victory over Olympiacos Piraeus in which his index rating was 28. He missed but once in 10 shot attempts as he tallied 18 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists in 26 minutes. Gordon starred in a 61-80 road win at Crvena Zvezda Telekom Belgrade with an index rating of 27. He scored 14 points on near-perfect shooting and collected 3 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals.

Individual leaders: Thomas Heurtel of Anadolu Efes Istanbul, 13 assists

James was the top scorer for the week with his 27-point outburst, a point more than De Colo, the clear favorite for the Alphonso Ford Top Scorer Trophy, which goes to the player with the highest scoring average over the course of the season. His 19.7 points per game are 3 more than second-place Milos Teodosic, his backcourt mate at CSKA. Bourousis and Augustine tied for the week's best rebounding total with 10 each. Bourousis also leads the league this season with 9.4 rebounds per game; Augustine is fourth (6.7 rpg.). For the second week in a row, Thomas Heurtel of Anadolu Efes Istanbul dished 13 assists, which is tied for the 10th-best single-game performance in competition history and the third-best in a Top 16 game. His season-long average of 7.9 assists per game is the most in competition history. Gordon's 4 steals were the most in Round 13; he is now third in the league with 1.7 steals per game. Nick Calathes of Panathinaikos Athens tops the 2015-16 charts with 2 per game. Five players share the weekly high for blocked shots with 2: Calathes, Bogdan Bogdanovic of Fenerbahce Istanbul, Adam Hanga of Laboral, Ioannis Papapetrou of Olympiacos and Ian Vougioukas of Zalgiris. Ekpe Udoh of Fenerbahce remains the full-season lead with 2.2 blocks per game. Augustine, Bourousis, Malcolm Delaney (15 points, 10 assists) of Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar and Heurtel (14 points, 13 assists) were the only players with double doubles in Round 13.
