Top 16 Round 12 bwin MVP: Alessandro Gentile, EA7 Emporio Armani Milan

With the best night yet in his budding Turkish Airlines Euroleague career, Alessandro Gentile of EA7 Emporio Armani Milan continued his great run of form to earn the bwin MVP honor for Top 16 Round 12. Gentile led his team to a 99-85 victory over Laboral Kutxa Vitoria on Thursday with a career-high 29 points. He also established a career best with a performance index rating of 30, which was the highest of any player on a winning team in Top 16 Round 12. Gentile, who has averaged 23.8 points over his past four games, made 4 of 5 threes against Laboral, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished 4 assists. He joined center Samardo Samuels to become Milan’s second weekly MVP in the Top 16. For the second week in a row, the week’s top index rating belonged to Crvena Zvezda Telekom Belgrade center Boban Marjanovic, who dominated the paint in his team’s 73-68 loss at ALBA Berlin. Marjanovic set a career high with a performance index rating of 40. He totaled 27 points on 9-of-12 shooting, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked 2 shots. Marjanovic has now had one of the top two index ratings in five of the last seven weeks. Patric Young of Galatasaray Liv Hospital Istanbul had a career night despite his team losing 84-86 at home to Panathinaikos Athens. Young scored 24 points, drew 8 fouls, made 10 of 11 free throws and grabbed 9 rebounds for a performance index rating of 32. The Euroleague’s top scorer, Nizhny Novgorod guard Taylor Rochestie, is next on the list of Top 16 Round 12 stars with a 31 index rating in an 82-86 defeat at the hands of CSKA Moscow thank to his 21 points and 6 assists. Rounding out the list of the round’s best performers was Real Madrid veteran Felipe Reyes, who spurred his team to an 86-75 victory over defending champion Maccabi Electra with 16 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals and a 27 index rating.

Individual leaders: Reggie Redding of ALBA Berlin, 11 assists

Alessandro Gentile was not only the week’s MVP, but also its top scorer with 29 points. Gentile is now ranked second in the Top 16 with 18.3 points per game. Taylor Rochestie remains the league’s top scorer with 19.2 points per game and the Top 16 leader at 18.6 per game. No player collected more rebounds in Top 16 Round 12 than Olympiacos Piraeus forward Georgios Printezis, who had 12 in a crucial win over Anadolu Efes. Boban Marjanovic remains this season’s rebounding leader with 10.4 per game and 10.1 in the Top 16. For the second week in a row, Reggie Redding of ALBA Berlin led the competition in assists. This week he dished 11. Former Euroleague MVP MilosTeodosic is the Euroleague leader with 7.1 assists per game, while the Top 16 leader is another former MVP, Vassilis Spanoulis of Olympiacos, with 6.6 per game. Panathinaikos center Esteban Batista not only matched his career high with 4 steals in the Greens’ road win at Galatasaray, but together with Rudy Fernandez of Real Madrid led all players in Top 16 Round 12. Rudy also leads the league with 1.8 steals per game and the Top 16 with 2 per game. Art Parakhouski of Nizhny Novgorod and Samardo Samuels each rejected 3 shots in Round 12 of the Top 16 to rank atop the weekly charts. Parakhouski is the leader for blocks this season (2.1 bpg.) and blocks in the Top 16 (2.5 bpg.). Top 16 Round 12 featured four double doubles: Nemanja Bjelica (15 points, 11 rebounds) of Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul, Marjanovic, Printezis (15 points, 12 rebounds) and Darios Saric (10 points, 10 rebounds) of Anadolu Efes Istanbul.
